INDIA READY TO FACE GREAT CHALLENGES
Madikeri Jan. 28: India is ready to face great challenges of adversaries despite friendship discussions-warned the southern commander in chief of army Ajaykumar singh here. He was addressing the gathering in the late field marshal cariappa’s 113th birthday celebrations organized by Cariappa forum.
All the citizens should be alert of security threat in the country he said.We are fully alive and alert to face those elements which harm the trust and honour of the nation he cautioned. He expressed gratitude towards the great service of the son of India field marshal cariappa and he analysed that he cannot think about Indian army without the participation of Kodagu warriors . He invited many more youths from Kodagu to join three military forces.
He recalled the cariappa’s charisma of personality who had served the nation through Jammu-kashmir operation and he had laid the foundation for modern Indian army. He urged to follow three policies of cariappa: Integrity, honesty and service.
A.K.Singh announced the establishment of a new Ex servicemen contributory health scheme (ECHS) to South Kodagu in addition to the running centre in Madikeri. He announced the proposal for establishing holiday home for ex. Servicemen in Madikeri. He announced the ugradation schemes for army canteen and Rs. 45 lakh as initial amount for this. He contributed Rs. One lakh for Madikeri ECHS and Rs. 2 lakh for the newly formed cariappa forum.
After, the birthday function while addressing the ex.servicemen in the indoor meeting Singh expressed concern about the enemies threat despite the ongoing friendship treaties. He assured the army is strong enough to face any threats from the outside forces. He explained the internal terrorism has to be curbed to safeguard the common people.
During the birthday function M.C.Nanaiah, the M.L.C and M.P.Appachu ranjan, the M.L.A suggested to conduct the birthday of cariappa every year in all the districts as a Govt. sponsored function. M.P.Vishwanth assured that he will suggest for national level celebrations. Late cariappa’s son Nanda cariappa speaking to TOI opined that “My father is not only honoured by Kodavas ;he is respected by the whole Kodagu people he said.His wife meena cariappa was present.
The ex-servicemen society president B.A Cariappa presented a traditional “Odikathi” to A.K.Singh. The whole crowd shouted “Jai Cariappa” when an army helicopter showered the flowers from the top on the statue of cariappa in sudarshan circle, here.Forum Chairman retd. Conl. K.C.Subbaiah, welcomed, the convener retd, maj. B.A.Nanjappa was honoured by the army chief. K.C.Ramamurthy coffee activist and Mukkaktira Chengappa social activists were honoured post humously and C.M.Pemmaiah, coffee activist and Mandepanda Pushpa Kuttanna social activists were also honoured today. March past went through the main streets in the town before gathering at Sudarshan circle.
